Westover Primary School

PSHE, RSE and Health Education

PSHE, RSE and Health Intent Statement

At Westover, we want to provide all of our children with the knowledge, understanding, values and skills that they need to succeed and be happy in life, as individuals and as part of our community, regardless of their starting point. We want children to develop the skills to make positive, caring, respectful and healthy relationships; in their friendships, within their families and with other children and adults. We want our children to know how to keep themselves safe in the real world, living in a coastal city and also in the online world.

Through Relationships Education, children also gain the knowledge they need to recognise and report abuse, including emotional, physical and sexual abuse and to keep themselves safe. They are encouraged to take part in a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, which build on from each other as they move through the school.

We want our children to know how to look after their mental health and well-being and to ensure they have respect and care for themselves.

Our children reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the cultural, spiritual, moral and social issues that are part of growing up. We want our children to be prepared for the challenges they will face in life and to be active, independent and resilient learners.  We want to give our children are given opportunities to develop their skills in a safe environment, enabling them to grow into confident, caring and respectful members of our community.
