First of all, thank you very much for your harvest donations and donations of cardboard boxes. We have collected lots of food to support others and have enough boxes for our science project. Your kindness never goes unnoticed!
In Phonics this week, we have begun our Phase 5 learning, introducing the new sounds: ay, ou, oy and ea. These new digraphs are sounds for other digraphs we already know so it was great to see the children applying their knowledge. This is reflecting in their writing as we see them writing ‘boy’ rather than ‘boi’, for example.
In English, we have continued using ‘Look Up!’ to help us build sentences with a subject, verb, object and a where. We have continued using capital letters and full stops and it has been fantastic seeing the children challenging themselves, off their own backs might I add, to include adjectives and the conjunction ‘and’.
In Maths, we have come to the end of our addition and subtraction within 10 unit where we have now begun looking at shape and pattern for the rest of the half term. In Wednesday’s lesson, we learnt about 3-D shapes having faces, edges and vertices. We had to use cubes, cylinders, cones, spheres and pyramids to build the tallest tower! The children were fantastic and explaining why they need to use shapes with a flat surface rather than a round one to ensure the tower could be balanced. We all got a visit from Mrs Leslie for the silver book!
Our afternoon lessons have consisted of designing ceramic plates inspired by Clarice Cliff in art, learning about animal diets in science and learning how to use a keyboard in computing with many more subjects and activities thrown into the mix.
As we lead up to the end of term, we look forward to seeing you at our exit point next Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 on the 14th.
Have a lovely INSET day today and weekend before another week of fun!
Miss Hathway.
