Geography
Curriculum Intent
Our Geography curriculum is built around the key concepts of: location and place; human and physical features; mapping; directional skills; fieldwork; environment and sustainability; settlement and land use; weather and climate. We want all children to understand how they fit in their immediate locality, country and wider world. We will explore how our world has changed and investigate what needs to change to sustain our future. We want our curriculum to show the values of Kindness, Resilience, Resourcefulness and Creativity.
Our Geography curriculum will inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about their immediate locality of Westover and eventually the world and its people. Geography teaching and learning will equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments; together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world will help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments. Children will leave Westover as geographers and global citizens.
