Design Technology
Curriculum Intent
Design and technology at Westover is a practical hands-on subject, which naturally develops critical thinking, creativity, resilience and problem-solving expertise. Described by the National Curriculum as a subject where, “pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens”, this subject really does have our Westover values of creativity, resilience and curiosity at its heart.
All of our children are given the chance to apply and develop their design and technology skills through a four-part process: exploration, design, make and evaluate.
Our primary skills development builds upon technical knowledge of the key areas: textiles, cooking and nutrition, mechanisms, structures and, in KS2, electrical systems.
Design and technology at Westover enables children to thrive with creativity, innovations and confidence. Our children are encouraged to question and think about the world around them in order to design and develop their own products with a purpose in mind. Through discussing ideas, we embed clear articulation and reasoning skills which are so vital in child development.
