Week 7

October 19, 2025

I’m really looking forward to welcoming you to our Exit Point on Tuesday at 2.30 pm. The theme this time is “Mix and Make, and Cut and Join,”. The children are already buzzing with excitement about showing you what they’ve been up to. To help us make the most of this creative session, we’d love it if you could bring in some junk modelling materials to add to our collection. Things like cardboard boxes, tubes, clean yoghurt pots, bottle tops, fabric scraps, and egg cartons are all perfect for building and making.

This week, we’ve been focusing on a deeper understanding of our three school rules: to be ready, safe and respectful. The children have been working with talk partners to explore what being respectful looks like in action. We’ve had some lovely discussions about how to show respect when someone is speaking, facing the speaker, taking turns to talk, and listening carefully before responding. It’s been wonderful to see them putting these skills into practice throughout the day.

You’ll find phonics flashcards in your child’s bookbag this week. These are a great way to practise the sounds we’ve been learning in class. The children have already learnt 20 sounds, which is a fantastic start to their reading journey. A few minutes of practice each day can make a big difference and really help to build their confidence.

In maths, we’ve been developing our counting skills and focusing on one-to-one correspondence. This means that when children count, they touch or move each object as they say each number, making sure every item is counted once and only once. It’s a really important foundation for understanding numbers properly. You can support this at home by encouraging your child to count everyday objects like buttons, stairs or pieces of fruit one at a time.

In Drawing Club, we’ve been diving into the story of ‘The Hundred Decker Bus’ by Mike Smith. The children have been full of imaginative ideas, creating their own characters and dreaming up exciting destinations for their buses to travel to. Their drawings have been full of colour, detail and creativity.

A final reminder for individual school photos, which is happening on Thursday 23rd October.

See you Monday!
