Our first two weeks back in Pufferfish have been busy and full of fun!
This half term, our topic is ‘Off to the Beach’, and pirates have sailed into our classroom. Our home corner has been transformed into a pirate cove, complete with treasure coins, map-making opportunities, and plenty of pirate dress-up. The children are absolutely loving this area of the classroom.
We have been reading ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson and ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ by Giles Andreae. The children continue to produce beautiful writing, and it is wonderful to see their confidence growing.
In preparation for moving to Year 1, the children are now completing a short writing task on the carpet during registration. Last week, we looked at funny pictures and wrote matching captions. Below are some examples of their fantastic work. I hope you feel just as proud as I do!
In maths, we have been learning about money, focusing on 1p, 2p and 5p coins. The children particularly enjoyed using real money to ‘buy’ their own designed ice creams.
As part of their transition, the children have also been accessing the main playground with the rest of the school during break and lunchtimes. This is a gradual process, and we take it at the children’s pace. To support them, Mrs Dalton and I have paired each child with a Year 5 buddy. It has been wonderful to see these relationships develop. The Year 5 children have been fantastic, checking in with their buddies, helping them find games to play, and making sure they feel safe and welcome.
In art, we are learning about Van Gogh. Last week, we created a whole-class collaborative painting of Starry Night. The children amazed us with their watercolour skills, carefully mixing colours to create a range of different shades and tones.
Another busy week ahead!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Mackett
