Autumn 2…so far!

November 22, 2025

Hello!

We have had a very busy and fun start to the half-term.

In maths, we have been exploring addition within 6, and the children have been practising this using part-whole models. They have become very good at using the correct vocabulary to support their learning, for example, “This part is 2, the other part is 3, and there are 5 altogether.”

In phonics, it is wonderful to see how much more confident the children are becoming with orally blending and segmenting. This has further supported their learning in spelling!

We are focusing on developing fine motor skills to help the children become confident and able writers. In P.E., we are working hard on gross motor skills, climbing the wall bars, bunny hopping, and doing pull-ups on the ropes. Additionally, we are practising pre-writing patterns daily to support letter formation. Recently, we have also practised buttering bread to make jam sandwiches! Please support your child at home by letting them peg out washing, button shirts, open and close containers, or pour water into cups. These activities really help strengthen their fingers and hands.

This week, we have introduced our learning about Amelia Earhart. The children are fascinated by what she achieved, and we have enhanced the learning in class by making paper aeroplanes, writing luggage labels, creating tickets for an aeroplane, and even building an aircraft in the outside classroom!

Our library day is Monday. Please ensure that all library books are in the children’s book bags so that we can swap their books. Additionally, our phonics reading books are swapped every Friday. Please make sure these are also in your child’s book bag on Friday so we can give them their new book.

Have a lovely weekend and stay dry!

See you Monday,

Mrs. Mackett
