A week of full impressing Miss Hathway once again!
In English this week, we wrote descriptive sentences based on the story of ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. We had to remember to include so many different components and we did a fabulous job! We had to make sure our sentences included a subject and a verb, as well as adjectives, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces whilst thinking about our handwriting and our sounds! Miss Hathway hasn’t stopped bragging about us! We wrote sentences like…
The whale is blue.
The very bumpy snail sits on the very wet rock.
The rock is as black as soot.
As you can see, our sentences including all of the bits and bobs they needed and… we did it independently!
In Maths, we were introduced to addition and subtraction equations. We used part-whole models, multilink and the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ to help us make up stories like: there is one Snow White and seven dwarfs. How many are there altogether? We then wrote the equations (1 + 7 = ) using the correct symbols and solved them (8).
In the afternoons, we have thoroughly enjoyed doing gymnastics in PE, focusing on shapes and jumps, learning about reptiles and amphibians in science and thinking about different feelings we have and who we can talk to amongst much more!
Reading books from reading groups are being sent home on a Friday. Please could these be returned by the following Friday, ready for a new set the next week. Thank you.
Just a note from me…
I have been thoroughly impressed with the transition all the children are making. Year R to Year 1 is a huge jump for our little people and they are doing amazing!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Hathway.
