In Dolphins this week, we have been recapping our split digraphs: a-e, i-e, u-e and o-e. Miss Hathway is using them as a password for us to enter the classroom after playtimes!
In Phonics this week, we have learnt the GPCs:
e-e (ee), ew (oo/yoo), ie (ee), aw (or)
and the tricky words:
house, mouse, water, want
In English, we have published our missing posters for Dogger. We have focused on adjectives to describe him as well as taking our time with letter formation, size and finger spaces. Miss Hathway thinks that the general public would be able to find Dogger anywhere using our posters as guides!
In Maths, we have revisited addition and subtraction but for numbers within 20 this time rather than 10. We have been looking at how to identify the two parts and the whole using ‘first, then and now’ stories. For example: first, I built 12 snowmen. Then, I built 3 more. Now, how many snowmen do I have? (12+3=15). First, I had 17 gingerbread men. Then, I ate 2. Now, how many do I have? (17-2=15). We have been representing the equations using abstract, concrete and pictorial representations and using number lines and number tracks to solve them, making jumps either to the right (addition) or to the left (subtraction).
We have also continued to learn our lines and songs for the nativity alongside Pufferfish in the hall and cannot wait for when you come to watch!
Have a lovely weekend and an extra day Friday!
Miss Hathway
