It has been wonderful to welcome the children back after the Christmas break.
Our focus this half term is Around the World, and we have launched this theme by exploring Space. Our book of the week is Astro Girl, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. They have loved learning facts about space in our themed book area, practising how to draw rockets, and creating beautiful constellation paintings.
In maths, the children have been developing their mental maths skills by counting forwards and backwards to 20, finding missing numbers, and representing quantity using numerals.
During our handwriting sessions, we have been focusing on directional strokes, practising up and down movements. We enjoyed doing this to Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars before moving onto the carpet to make large marks on the floor together as a whole class. Next week, we will begin working on the ladder letter group: l, t, u, y, i, and j. Correct letter formation is an important skill to establish in the early stages of handwriting.
The marble run has been a big hit in Pufferfish this week! The children have enjoyed challenging themselves to create labels and signs for their models, producing some wonderful early writing and spelling, such as “big” and “legs.”
Have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
Mrs Mackett
