Summer 2 Week 3

June 20, 2025

What a hot and sweaty week we have had! Starfish have been brilliant this week when revisiting initial sounds that we’ve looked at during What’s in the Box. We are now focusing on rhyming words and what words sound similar.

Math’s this week has focused back on number, we have sung lots of counting rhymes, played number games with our fingers and created our own number blocks where we had to count the cubes carefully.

The children have gotten creative alongside our story ‘You Choose’, they created different people and objects using resources around the room. They build large cities and new homes for a character they had chosen. One child said he was making a washing machine house, and another built a spaceship home.

We have looked at the words push and pull during our circle time using some fun objects to have a go at pushing and pulling. The children were brilliant at using full sentences to describe what was happening and using the key words.

We tested objects from around the room to see what happens when they are put in water. The children were able to use the words sinking and floating to explain what was happening. It was a shock to the children when an object they felt that was heavy floated on top of the water.

We are trying to encourage all the children to make sure they are bringing in sunhats, suncream and a water bottle. We want to make the most of this beautiful weather and play in the sunshine but need to ensure we are sun safe.

Don’t forget our stay and play session 2-3 where all current pre-school children and their grown-ups are invited in. Don’t worry if you can’t make it, we have our leavers picnic on the 16th of July where all current parents and children are invited in again.
