19/6 Year 3

June 19, 2025

From washout to heatwave, our trips go from one extreme to another! Yesterday we had a wonderful day at the beautiful Tuppenny Barn, learning all about plants and seasonal foods. The whole class tried lots of different herbs and salad greens. Favourites included lemon sorrel, which apparently tastes like ‘toxix waste’ sweets (but is thankfully full of vitamins instead of chemicals!), and lemon verbena, which has calming properties. The children enjoyed some calm, quiet moments laying down and breathing in the lemon verbena, definitely one to plant at home and school!

The class loved learning about bees and exploring the orchard to spot the bee hives. We played a fun bee game to see how cross pollination occurs.

A highlight to many was baking savoury muffins using herbs that we picked. Recipes for these will be coming home this week.  See link below. After planting lettuces and making sensory strips, the class were thrilled to be given some tomato plants for our school veggy beds.

Thanks to SDNP for donating £750 towards the costs of this trip. A memorable day out for all which greatly supported our learning in both science and design technology.  Well done to Seals for super behaviour and being such a credit to our school.
