Sharks Week 8

October 24, 2025

It’s been a brilliant last week in Year 5!

The children have written some incredible spooky stories which include lots of description as well as figurative language, relative clauses (our newly-learnt skill) and dialogue. There have been lots of visits to the silver book for these as well as lots of green highlighter in books so well done Sharks!

Thank you to all who could make it to our exit point on Thursday. We did something a little different and it definitely paid off as the children (and yourselves) were able to show their creative sides and create rangoli patterns – based on our Diwali learning in RE – out of natural materials that had been scavenged. Please see some of these magnificent creations below.

Our week definitely ended on a high today! Starting with the spelling test in which every child scored either a 9 or a 10 which meant house points all round! Fantastic effort by all showing that practising does pay off! We then finished and edited our stories before then watching Skellig (the film version of the book we’ve been reading this half term). Everyone was keen to share similarities and differences between the film and the book which is great!

Thank you for being so supportive in this first half term of your child’s Year 5 journey! Have a wonderful week off!
