Dolphins – Autumn 1, Weeks 2-5

October 2, 2026

WOW! What a fantastic last few weeks we have had in Dolphins!

In Phonics, we have begun learning some new sounds and tricky words. It has been lovely to see the children identifying these new sounds within their reading too.

In English, we have created three sentences using all of our foundation writing skills (capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, handwriting, subjects and verbs) for the beginning, middle and end of our class text ‘Beegu’. We did an excellent job of editing them too and even published them! We are now moving onto our new text, ‘Pig the Pug’.

In Maths, we have moved onto addition and subtraction within 10 where we have been using multilink, tens frames and part-whole models to help us. We have learnt what an equation is and how to form and solve them for both operations (part + part = whole and whole – part = part). Their use of star words to show their understanding has been brilliant!

Across other subjects, we have looked at: balances and jumps in gymnastics (PE), tempo and dynamics whilst using the glockenspiels and boomwhackers (music), using a trackpad and keyboard (computing), creating leaflets of our local area (geography), comparing animal features (science), The Last Supper (RE), identifying feelings (PSHE) and designing plates inspired by Clarice Cliff (art).

Over the next few weeks, we are going to be building habitats in science. If you have any spare cardboard/cardboard boxes at home, we would greatly appreciate you sending them in to support with this.

Please check the newsletter for our upcoming exit point too!

Have a lovely weekend.
