End of half term

May 22, 2026

What a fantastic half term it has been in Pufferfish! The children have worked incredibly hard and we are so proud of all they have achieved.

In phonics, the children have now learnt all of the tricky words for Year R, an amazing milestone! You will find the new Phase 4 (green) tricky word cards in your child’s book bag. Please continue to practise these regularly at home to help build confidence and fluency.

It has been lovely to see an increase in children logging their reading in their reading records and earning their star badges, well done! Your support at home really makes a difference.

In maths, the children have been working very hard on counting to 30 this half term. To support this at home, you could:

Practise counting groups of objects between 10 and 20
Consolidate number bonds to 5, for example:

1 + 4 = 5
2 + 3 = 5

In literacy, the children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring traditional tales, and I am delighted with the progress they are making in their writing skills. Their enthusiasm and creativity have really shone through.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended our exit point this half term. The children have worked very hard on developing their sewing skills, and it was wonderful to see your support as they completed their final projects.

We also had some exciting hands-on learning outdoors on Thursday when we dug up the baby carrots we planted. The children were incredibly proud of what they had grown and took great care in washing them afterwards.

During our fundraising week, the children showed fantastic energy and teamwork while taking part in lots of physical activities. They competed in activities which included:

10 laps of the basketball court
20 hops on one foot
Fun sack races

We were also delighted to see Mrs Kinsman, who came back to visit the children with her beautiful baby boy, Mason. The children were so excited to see Mrs Kinsman, meet Mason and showed such kindness and curiosity. It was a lovely opportunity for them to see a young baby up close and ask lots of thoughtful questions. Thank you, Mrs Kinsman, for coming in to share this special moment with us!

We are already looking forward to next half term when our new theme will be “Off to the Beach!”, we have lots of exciting activities planned.

Thank you again for your continued support. Have a wonderful and sunny half term break!

Mrs Mackett
