Spring 2 Week 1

February 28, 2025

A very hard-working start to the half term for Year 4.

This half term, we are immersing ourselves into the world of dragons! Our class text, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, has inspired us to put our school value of creativity at the forefront of our learning. We are working towards writing character descriptions in the form of top trump cards and what better way to get excited about this than to create our own dragons! We have used AI to generate our own characters where we have had to be extremely specific with each and every detail! We have been finding high level synonyms to accurately describe our dragons within expanded noun phrases which we have written within sentences that include a multitude of Year 4 writing skills. It’s always more inspiring to write about something we have made ourselves.

In maths, we have begun our new unit: decimals. This week, we have identified equivalent fractions to decimal tenths as well as using our star words and prior learning to compare fractions and take on reasoning problems. The children have shown a fantastic resilience to this and are grasping the concept spectacularly at this stage!

In the afternoons, we have begun to look at the following in each subject:

Science: States of Matter

PSHE: Rights and Responsibility

Geography: Land Use and Food in the UK

PE: Indoor Athletics and Outdoor Adventure

DT: Adapting a Recipe (Cookies)

RE: Paschal Candle

Computing: Data Logging

Music: Haiku Music

French: Weather

We are looking forward to a successful half term!
