Spring 2 Week 2

March 7, 2025

This week, we have engaged in some fantastic learning.

In English, we have explored fronted adverbials and figurative language when writing descriptive sentences about our dragons! We have been resilient when responding to our pink for think and creative when exploring what alliteration, similes, metaphors and personifications will create an impact on the player (audience) when playing with our dragon top trump cards. We have planned our character descriptions (top trump cards) by bearing in mind what we need and how these will support us in meeting the form, purpose and audience prior to writing and publishing them next week.

In maths, we have continued our learning of decimals. We have explored rounding decimals to the nearest whole number, number bonds and addition and subtraction problems of numbers with one decimal place to secure our understanding of tenths before exploring hundredths in upcoming learning.

In PE, we worked through different stations to improve our teamwork and athletic skills. In Music, we immersed ourselves in the Japanese Hanami (cherry blossom) festival which marks the beginning of spring. Whilst standing under trees in the playground and listening to calm music, we thought of descriptive words that we could use in our haiku poems which will be focused on the festival. As well as these highlights, we explored rural and urban land use in geography, the particle arrangement of different states in science, weather in french and many more exciting topics in other subjects.

On Tuesday morning, Harold the giraffe from SCARF paid us a visit to teach us all things mental health (how to look after our mind and body).

Every morning, Miss Hathway has been awarding house points to those pupils who are practising their times tables on TTRS everyday! This is reflecting in their number sense scores and MTC practice. Miss Hathway has issued all the children with their log ins so there is no excuse to practise as their MTC draws closer and closer!

Have a lovely weekend and well done for this week Year 4!
