Spring 2 Week 3

March 16, 2025

This week in Starfish we have been reading the story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’ and have absolutely loved retelling the story as different characters. At the beginning of the week we pretended we were trolls and had to think of different ways the goats could cross the bridge for example tip-toeing, hopping, jumping or side stepping. Some other activities we have done around the book this week have been using the big equipment outside as bridges and masks to role play the story and even added their own adaptions to it, making our own troll/goat/monster masks and molding playdoh to create our own horrid troll.

The children have been looking at objects with the ‘h’ sound this week and have blown us away at how good they are at remembering the items in our box. We are going to be extending them further from next week and include syllables (we have covered this before and were very good at it) and thinking about rhyming words with the objects.

Our maths table this week included numbers and the children had to rearrange them into the correct order then count objects for that number. We ended the week with some scales and found out the troll had been stealing items, the children had to look at the scales and identify which one was heavy or light and why they thought that.

We have read lots of stories this week and the children have loved talking about their favourite books they read at home. Attached is a recommended reading list of 15 stories which we are working through at school but you may want to continue reading these stories at home with your children.  1.441 – Early year’s leaflet.indd
