Summer 1 Week 3

May 9, 2025

This week in Starfish we have been practicing throwing and catching, making sure we keep eye contact on the ball so we are able to catch it without dropping it. We have done this through our PE lesson and continued this through discover and do, we are getting so good at both throwing and catching.

Our sound this week has been ‘w’ and we’ve looked at objects that start with the sound, we have got so clever at remembering the sound that the adult have been challenging us to work out how many syllables are in there. The children have been thinking about rhyming words during discover and do, they have been looking at pictures and matching them to the words that rhyme and sound the same. The story this week has been ‘Farmer Duck’, we had a sensory tray with different homes for the animals thinking about what noises they’d hear or make on the farm, the children drew the duck pictures to help cheer him up after all his hard work and built a new farm for the animals out of duplo.

In our outside area a new travel agents has appeared. The children have been getting into holiday mode by taking bookings for holidays, telling us all about their holidays they’ve been on and where they’d like to visit for a holiday.

As we are spending a lot more time outside than inside whilst the weather is warm, we are encouraging the children to bring sunhats, water bottles and sun cream into school. When bringing sun cream in for your child please could you bring it labelled with their name and pass to an adult in the classroom to store safely for when we get the children to reapply it.
