An absolutely outstanding first week back in Year 4 for Sea Otters!
There has been an exceptional amount of visits to the silver book, for many pupils, for their embodiment of our school values: creativity, resilience, resourcefulness and kindness.
In English, we have begun reading our new whole class text, ‘Charlotte’s Web’. In our writing lessons, we have been looking at the features of instructions and their purposes. We really understood the importance of these features when Miss Hathway couldn’t even manage to make a jam sandwich! In our reading lessons, we have analysed the front cover of the book, predicting ideas about setting, character and plot, using evidence to justify our ideas.
In Maths, we have continued identifying angles, including right angles, acute angles and obtuse angles. Using our star words and understanding, we investigated always true, sometimes true and never true statements when looking at angles within shape. We have started recapping 2-D shapes, focusing on quadrilaterals and triangles.
In our foundations subjects, we will be learning:
Science – Electricity
Geography – Human Impact and Sustainability
DT – Fastenings (Textiles)
Music – Rock and Roll
RE – Rituals (Water)
PSHE – Growing and Changing
PE – Athletics and Tennis
French – French and The Eurovision Song Contest
Computing – Programming (Games)
Next week, we will complete our Multiplication Tables Check, a statutory assessment for all Year 4 pupils. The check will take place in the library where the children will use laptops to answer 25 multiplication questions. There is no pass mark, however, the children are encouraged to continue using TTRS over the next week in preparation. They have made so much progress this year and they deserve to do well! The check informs future teachers on multiplication gaps which will need to be plugged in order for them to best access future learning.
Have a lovely weekend all!
