Week 1

January 10, 2025

What a great start to 2025! Year 3 have dived straight into their new learning with remarkable focus and enthusiasm. The children have embraced our Prince of Egypt themed English lessons, recalling key plot points and thinking about effective settings. In Maths the class have learnt how to calculate perimeter of regular and irregular shapes. We have been recalling how 1cm is equal to 10mm and 1 m is equal to 100 cm. This has helped us to calculate using mixed units of measure.

For our Ancient Egypt history unit, we have studied a page from The Book of The Dead as if we are Egyptologists.  To hook us into this topic, we have all had a go at the mummification process. Don’t worry, no brains were removed through noses, all organs are still intact! Instead of a pharaoh, the children carefully removed the insides of an orange. Next, they dried out the empty orange before filling it with salt and spices. Finally the orange was tightly wrapped using glue soaked bandages. We will see whether our mummification process is as effective as that of the Ancient Egyptians over the coming weeks!
