This week has been super busy. In English, we have written some lovely poetry about flight which links with our book FArTHER. We had lots of children who were then able to publish these today. In Maths, we learnt all about percentages – what one is and then how to work out the decimal and fraction equivalents. This is what their homework is about this week as they need to learn the simple equivalents so they can recall them for other learning. We almost had a full house of homework books back this week – let’s see if we can manage it next week!
On Wednesday, we went on our school trip to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard where we saw our History learning come to life. Being able to see the Mary Rose up close and personal was a highlight as the children had looked at the Cowdray Engraving (which depicts the Battle of Solent and the sinking Mary Rose) beforehand. The museum now also have a 4D cinema experience which shows the excavation of the Mary Rose in 1982. It was amazing to see how much thought and effort needed to go into lifting the ship from the seabed up to the surface. The actors on HMS Warrior brought the experience to life through their stories – they also stayed in role the whole time! The children were a credit to Westover and a member of the public even said how lovely and quiet they were being in the museum. Please see photos from the day below.
